It is with intense pleasure that we share with you this article. We wanted to write about LP’s new song, “Girls Go Wild,” from the first second we heard it. It was right after LP’s first American concert this winter, but we were not sure anyone would appreciate a one-pager that goes: “omgthissongsmbdykillussogood […]” But the thing is that, alongside the new intro for “No Witness,” and LP’s outfit for the first San Francisco night, the song “Girls Go Wild” is among our favorite moments of the American tour. And an outright leader among them.

LP premiered “Girls Go Wild” during her show in Sacramento, on February 9th, the opening night of her American tour. Thirsty for any snippet or preview of her new music, all the more so since her album is in the making, we were wondering if she would introduce some new songs to her American audience. And she did, the very first night of the tour. After the first few notes and the guitar riff we kind of knew it was definitely going to be on repeat at our place, but when LP arrived with that first vocal hook, this is when we just went crazy for the song (an insanity which lasts even until now, with no prognosis for improvement.)
We’re shooting in the dark here, but singing “Girls Go Wild,” and especially that hook, seems to be pure fun for LP. It’s amazingly catchy, and she placed it in the chorus in such a way as to make it just ridiculously difficult to perform. But what else can you possibly expect from an artist that writes for herself those songs that are “too high for anyone else to sing.” When people ask her how such big sounds can come from such a tiny body, she usually says that she is “a catapult for the sounds,” and if anyone needs demonstrable proof, just play yourself “Girls Go Wild.” To us, as her remote audience, each time she arrives at the hook, it’s like a dose of some fun alkaloid – serene and euphoric, simultaneously. Good stuff.
The song showcases much more than just the special energy of how LP sings it. Even though her most spectacular vocals are those highest ones, it’s her low color that slays and can’t be compared to anything else out there. And she sings most of “Girls Go Wild” using just this. The balance between lows and highs could maybe be compared to how she used them for “Muddy Waters,” but the songs are so different that we can’t really say that. The “Girls Go Wild” vibe is totally relaxed and brings a good ambiance and together with the lyrics, which are the opposite, being neither happy nor relaxed, it creates the characteristic dissonance, innate to LP’s writing. One that develops a strong addiction to her, as a writer.
After LP sang the song in Sacramento, we’ve become even more curious as to how the landscape of the new album would be designed. Will it have “Dead Town” and “Old Days?” For our ears, they come together with “Girls Go Wild” beautifully, especially with the latter. Try and dispose them like this: “Girls Go Wild,” “Dead Town,” “Old Days.” Then sit back, relax and enjoy your flight.
So, here’s a shot of an absolute highlight off LP’s American tour, “Girls Go Wild.” And also, below, we penned down the lyrics to the song, as we hear them.

GIRLS GO WILD – POSSIBLE LYRICS
I been caged, I been hounded, I been hunted and tamed
I’m the outlaw on the outside, I’m ready to rage
I’m in search of the heart I can eat to renew me
And I’m dazzled by all of the things that undo me
Girls go wild on the West Coast
Come on baby, let’s go
That’s what she said
Sunshine brighter than blind love
It’s all in the name of the wild wild west
Take my love, take my soul, you just take what you can
When we fuck now it feels like you don’t understand
Tell you what, it don’t suck, and I need you right now
You’re the one that I want, so I won’t make a sound
Girls go wild on the West Coast
Come on baby, let’s go
That’s what she said
Sunshine brighter than blind love
It’s all in the name of the wild wild west
I really love you
You know I really do
Whatever happens, I hope you’re happy too
I really love you
So what you wanna do
Girls go wild on the West Coast
She wanted to let go
That’s what she said
Sunshine brighter than blind love
It’s all in the name of the wild wild west
I really love you
You know I really do
Whatever happens, I hope you’re happy too
I really love you
So what you wanna do
